Youth Ministry

Since its inception, Emmanuel has been focused on engaging our young people, working with the boarding community of Concordia Lutheran College, and journeying with them through these often-challenging years of life. Our young people are engaged in bible study groups and we support them to attend and be nurtured at Lutheran Youth Queensland (LYQ) camps. If you want to find out more about these camps, visit the LYQ website.

We are excited to announce that a new youth venture has started in 2018. LYT - Lutheran Youth ToowoombaYoung disciples filled with the Spirit, lyt for Jesus. "Never let the fire in your heart go out. Keep it lyt. Serve the Lord." (NIRV) Romans 12:11
Who: All high school aged youth
When: Every third Sunday of the month
Time: 5.30-7.30pm
New people are always welcome.

Small Groups

We have a thriving Small Group ministry at Emmanuel. We understand that if we engage our faith with others, share in the blessings of community, study and laugh with each other, then we will grow in a deep relationship with God. We have dedicated people who help to place people in small groups, and you don’t need to be a part of our worshipping community to be involved in one. Contact us if you would like to be a part of a small group.

Plus 50's

Our plus 50’s are not simply forgotten, but embraced because of their wisdom, experience and desire to see the generations after them growing in faith. Once a month, the Plus 50's group gathers together for laughs and friendship over a cuppa at one of the beautiful cafes that we have in Toowoomba. Contact us for more information about the Plus 50’s group.

What Is Baptism?

Baptism is water and the words of Jesus. In baptism we are claimed for Jesus Christ. It is a holy moment in which someone is welcomed into Emmanuel congregation, the worldwide Christian church and is adopted by our Heavenly Father as his own child. Being baptised at Emmanuel isn’t about being baptised “Lutheran”, it is about being marked as a saved child of God.

Baptism For Adults And Teens

If you are thinking of getting baptised we are excited for you! We’d like to find a group of people to support you as you prepare and to help you learn more about Jesus. Team members can include friends, anyone you respect or admire of your age and should also include someone more mature in faith who can support you in the journey to come. If you are ready to follow through a life with Christ then you are ready!

Baptism For Babies And Children

Before you can come for a baptism at Emmanuel you need to meet with our pastor, who will share with you the promises that you will be called upon to make on the day of your child’s baptism. Because baptism is a huge gift from God we don’t take it lightly. And we ask that you don’t either. Because of grace (God’s unconditional love for sinners) we don’t say “no” to requests for baptism. But a natural part of Baptism is learning about Jesus and following him in your life. So we encourage you to connect with Emmanuel and join with us in worship. Because it’s about being welcomed into the Christian community, we usually baptise at a worship service of the church.

What Are Godparents?

In the Christian church godparents take a spiritual role in helping a young person grow in faith. This can’t be done unless godparents themselves have an alive faith in Christ. So it’s important for godparents to be learning about Christ and growing spiritually. If you’ve been asked to be a godparent, then this is a call from God to develop your faith! When an adult gets baptised (perhaps this is you?) they also publicly declare their faith and promise to follow Christ. When a child is being baptised we ask parents and godparents to promise that they will help the child learn of Jesus and guide them towards the ‘confirmation’ of their faith. The baptism promises mean that you will include Christ in your everyday life and relationships. They include bringing the child to worship to learn and grow in faith.

What The Bible Says About Baptism:

Matthew 28:18-20
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
1 Peter 3:20-21
In Noah’s ark only eight people were saved from drowning in the flood. And this is a symbol of baptism, which now saves you by the power of Jesus Christ’s resurrection. Baptism is not a removal of dirt from your body; it is a clean conscience before God.
Romans 6:4-5
We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life. If we have been united with him like this in his death, we will certainly also be united with him in his resurrection.

community events

Emmanuel is a big family! And like most families, we love hanging out with each other. Be it at our morning tea after worship, or one of our social events, there is always love and laughter being shared. We have family fun days, bike rides, fishing trips, breakfasts, and many other regular events. Keep an eye on our Facebook feed, or our upcoming events for more information.

community missions

The Mustard Seed is Emmanuel‘s community mission where our vision is to be Jesus with skin on in our community. Our work at times is small, but our mission is that what we plant may grow an intimate relationship with Christ in someone else.

When did the Mustard Seed start?

In July 2011, a small group from Emmanuel took a trip to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Buderim for their mission weekend. Members were inspired by the mission work of Immanuel and could see opportunities for our congregation to participate in similar mission areas.

Whom do we support?

We currently support Eva’s Place, the Salvation Army Crisis Centre and Harristown State School Chaplain (our neighbour just up the road from the chapel where we worship). We also support our homeless community and families fleeing domestic violence or who are needing refuge.

What do we do?

We find practical ways of support. Among other initiatives, we run stationery drives and collate Christmas hampers for the Harristown State School Chaplain to distribute to families in need. We run a blanket and non-perishable food drive for the Salvation Army Crisis Centre in winter. We also collect and donate FAB packs containing toiletries and personal care items to Rosies Friends on the Street, Protea Place and The Basement to distribute to women and men fleeing domestic violence, for families needing refuge and for homeless men and women.
Eva’s Place and the Harristown State School Chaplain all continually require more funding for various reasons. Although we love to offer practical assistance, we also run fundraising activities so we can contribute much-needed funds to these organisations. We held High Tea Fundraisers from 2014 to 2016 and a Trivia Night FUNdraiser in 2017.

How can you help?

The Mustard Seed is a continually evolving program. If you would like to be part of the committee or have any fundraising ideas, please complete an information form.

At Emmanuel, we believe that passing on the faith is a privilege that Jesus has blessed his church with. We will hold yearly First Communion courses, for anyone who wishes to receive the true body and blood of Jesus in Holy Communion. For young people who wish to make a public declaration of their faith, we also practice confirmation. This practice dates back centuries and allows a young person to declare that they will be responsible for their own faith.
